Fruitful exchanges were held today between the members of the EU-Zambia Business Club and the Minister of Finance, Hon. Felix Mutati, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Hon. Margret Mwanakatwe and Minister of National Development and Planning, Hon. Lucky Mulusa, on the Government’s economic priorities for the following five years.
The EU-Zambia Business Club (EUZBC) organised today a meeting between its members and three Economic Ministers: Minister of Finance, Hon. Felix Mutati, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Hon. Margaret Mwanakatwe and Minister of National Development and Planning, Hon. Lucky Mulusa, focused on the economic priorities of the Government.
The Ambassador of the European Union to Zambia, H.E. Alessandro Mariani, reconfirmed that the private sector is the backbone of the economy and therefore welcomed the participation of Ministers in close dialogue with private sector. He said that ‘offering a platform for such a dialogue is one of the main objectives of the EU-Zambia Business Club and today’s event was an excellent example.’ He added that: ‘By tackling the issue from all sides, Zambian and European, public and private, I am sure we all will be able to make a meaningful, further, contribution to the development and growth of Zambia.’
The Ministers presented the economic priorities of the Government highlighting the importance of the private sector’s involvement in the economy and the enabling measures that Government will put in place for the private sector to play its role.
The event was attended by more than 120 CEO members of the EU-Zambia Business Club.
The EU-Zambia Business Club (EUZBC) is an association of EU and Zambian businesses, including more than 200 companies active in Zambia, from 14 EU Member States. The overall objective of the EUZBC is to facilitate trade and increase investment opportunities between the EU and Zambia.
The EU-Zambia Business Club focuses on:
- facilitating and conducting dialogue with the Zambian government on issues prioritised by the Club members
- facilitating and conducting networking events amongst its Members
- facilitating the creation of strategic alliances between Zambian and EU companies
- encouraging ethical business practices by all companies operating in Zambia
