Blackhall’s Laws of Zambia is a revised edition of the laws of Zambia containing primary and secondary legislation.

Zambia’s judicial system is based on English common law and customary law. Common law is administered by several high courts, which have the authority to hear criminal and civil cases and appeals from lower courts. Resident magistrate’s courts are also established at various centers. Local courts mainly administer customary law, especially cases relating to marriage, property, and inheritance.

Patents & Companies Registration Agency (PACRA)

The Patents and Companies Registration Agency (PACRA) is a semi-autonomous executive agency of the Zambian Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry. Its principal functions are to operate a legal system for registration and protection of commercial and industrial property and to serve as a legal depository of the information tendered for registration. It comprises two core departments – Industrial Property and Commercial. Others are Accounts, Human Resources and Administration, and Information Technology (IT). Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA)

In the context of declining Government revenues from a peak of around 30 percent of GDP in the late 1970s to just 13 percent of GDP from tax collections in the early 1990s, the Zambian Government launched a tax reform programme in 1992. In addition to various tax policy initiatives, this reform programme included a major overhaul of revenue administration through the establishment the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), on April 1, 1994, as a semi-autonomous agency under the Zambia Revenue Authority Act, now Chapter 321 of the Laws of Zambia. That culminated in the former Departments of Income Tax and Customs and Excise of the then Ministry of Finance being brought together under the revenue authority.

The Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) is a statutory body established under the Information and Communication Technologies Act No. 15 of 2009 to regulate the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector. The Authority is also responsible for the regulation of the Postal and Courier Services sector as well as providing oversight on Cyber Security in the country.

Zambia Chamber of Small and Medium Business Associations (ZCSMBA)

ZCSMBA was established in January 2000 as a national body representing the interests of small and medium enterprises in Zambia. ZCSMBA was formally registered as an Association under the Societies Act Chapter 119 on 28th March 2000. It is the only private sector organization which represents the interests of MSMEs across the whole country through its network of Business Associations in 69 of the 72 districts of Zambia.
