The Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC) is a power utility currently operating on the Copperbelt whose main business is to supply power to the mines on the Copperbelt. CEC is also involved in power trading using the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) market, of which it is a member, and supplies power to several mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The company owns and operates a robust transmission and distribution network and also owns and operates the Zambia-DRC interconnector on the Zambian side. CEC has an embedded 80 MW of thermal generation which is principally used for emergency power supplies to its customers.
