EUZBC hosts 2020 Budget and Economic Outlook from a Business Perspective
The EUZBC organised a 2020 budget and economic outlook event on 31 November 2019 aimed at critically analysing the impact of the 2020 budget from a business perspective. Panellists from the World Bank and PricewaterHouse coopers participated in a discussion giving their expert views on the budget.
In his remarks, the president of the EUZBC board, Mr Henk Mulder pointed critical areas of concern to the private sector which included tax related changes, the dismantling of arrears owed to private sector which, if settled are critical to the provision of liquidity on the market that will spur investment.
The EUZBC Ambassador to Zambia, Mr Jacek Jankowski, who was attending an EUZBC event for the first time, expressed his delight at the work being done by the EUZBC which is an important avenue for the EU’s economic diplomacy efforts which complements the development cooperation activities. The Ambassador emphasised on the need for further collaboration with the EU and Zambia businesses in order to maximise the contribution that private sector can make to job creation, economic and overall development in Zambia, including through the promotion of new European investments in the country.
The event provided an opportunity to the members of the EUZBC to expressed their views on the 2020 budget and make suggestions to the Government. The EUZBC board will engage the Ministry of Finance and present the outcomes of the meeting through a position paper.
